Emotion through motion

Art by Mikel usually tells a story which is inspired by an event or emotional experience. Sometimes it can be a profound statement such as this piece titled "Vacation to Insanity" as it compares romantic relationships to a an unpleasant experience which is bound to drive you a little crazy. in this piece there appears to be a mixture of memories bound together and and they seem to be large and intrusive, occupying the majority of the brain. Then we have the Joker on the bottom right who has been driven to the point of insanity from the so called experience.

Inspiration

Mikel draws inspiration from many artists such as George condo, Mark Rothkow, Willem de kooning, Basquiat and Anthony Lister. "These Artists I feel my style resonates with the most and they portray the feeling and emotion really well in my eyes".

Texture

Mikel draws ideas from the decayed urban environment and takes pleasure in the aesthetic of texture on weathered walls and layers of advertising material glued and painted over many times over the years.

Mediums

Mikel's preferred materials is oil on canvas but he also paints on timber, fabric, paper mache or any surface that appears to have a rough or interesting texture.

His method is mostly brush, palette knife, and cloth in order to smear, scratch and wipe the paint to give an effect that many varying artists may have contributed to a piece such as that found on old graffiti walls.

I have three pieces of artowrk by Mikel, each piece is full of depth, detail and emotion. They are fabulous and make a beautiful finish to each room. I look forward to watching what he comes up with next.

I own many pieces of artwork from fabulous Australian Artists, Kevin best, P E Edgar and some wonderful pieces from the 1940's and 50's. I came across Mikel 12 months ago and started following his artwork. I watched him create with passion my beautiful painting of the "Woman in orange", who I feel when I look at her has come through life's turmoil and is now embracing it's wonder. This painting was painted with a pair, since purchasing only one I feel like it is missing it's mate so I've also purchased the "Woman in green" so they are complete. I will be watching Mikel's art closely, I'm very interested in his collection.

Tracy

As one of Mikel's early fans, we commissioned him to paint a statement piece in our living room. Our only request was the use of gold/ copper colours so as to not interfere with his artistic process. The end result, "Separation" is a masterpiece that takes you on a different journey every time we stare at it. I feel proud to own one of Mikel's first commissioned paintings and I can't wait for the next one.
